Cimarronas, Mujeres Afrobolivianas

Marronage during slavery was the process of resistance against the colonial system, which consisted of the escape of enslaved people from their masters, who rebelled and escaped to take refuge in the fields to live in freedom and formed new communities, from where they built their resistance. We, as Afro- Bolivian women, organized ourselves and coined the name CIMARRONAS, in memory and recognition of the struggle of those men and women who, despite being enslaved, sought all forms and strategies to achieve their freedom. We are Afro- Bolivian women who belong to and represent various communities and municipalities in Bolivia. Together we have found strategies to support each other in a collective and collaborative way. Through the framework of sisterhood, we fight for the rights of women to live a life free of violence, for food sovereignty and better life for Afro-Bolivian families.

CIMARRONAS receives funding support from the Black Feminist Fund through our Solidarity Fund.
