Girls Arise Foundation (GAF)

Girls Arise Foundation (GAF) is an independent, non-political, non-religious, advocacy and feminist adolescent girls organization established and managed by adolescent girls themselves in Malawi. GAF was set up to specifically promote the rights of adolescent girls as the primary focus for all our activities. It works with and for adolescent girls aged between 10 and 19 years to create a resilient community of girls empowered to claim their right to education, resist early marriage, and challenge the violence of sexual cleansing rituals, and a community of parents and local leaders committed to supporting girls’ rights and empowerment. Our normal activities are intended to address the need to give girls control over strategic life choices (with support from their parents and community leaders), so that they can more freely pursue their right to live healthier lives, resist and report sexual gender based violence, go to school and be agents of change in their communities. Along with this, we focus mainly on programs that ensure girls`s rights are realized and respected, that security of girls is paramount, that the very basic needs of girls including SRH services are accessible and that girl child education is a priority.

GAF receives funding support from the Black Feminist Fund through our Solidarity Fund.
